Re: Turn Buttons - Aesthetic suggestion
I mentioned it to Omroth a week ago and he said it was a well-known issue and that since it was purely aesthetic that it was particularly low priority. That response might have been affected by the fact that I was asking just before a patch was ready for deployment though.

Re: New Game Mode: Ranged vs Melee
In a turn-based game, rather than a real-time game, it would be terribly difficult to actually connect with the enemy. You'd either need to give the melee attacks absurd range or allow the AI to jump the alien onto a nearby human itself, which is something more complicated. As to why melee is better...

Re: Bugtracker?
I use them all the time on both sides (as dev and reporter). I suspect that, of your core pre-order player base, you probably have a lot more than 2% of users able and willing to report bugs on a tracker and probably less than that in your full post-release user base. From my point of view, even if ...

Re: Reload time on the different weapons
I don't think there is reloading or ammo tracking as such. It is more that it takes time to aim before you get a kill-shot. Thus, a sniper takes a longer time to aim than a sniper, not that the sniper is out of ammo or anything of that sort.

Re: Proposed feature: importing level from a bitmap
I'm not sure of the point of allowing a range of colours (e.g. anything with more blue than 100 to be a wall). This makes the code much more hard-coded than just having a single specific colour as well as limiting the number of meaningful colours to just 3. There can't be overlaps of objects in the ...

Re: Proposed change: fix to the Secure 'sploit
"only applies to engagements which happen at the exact start of the game" - I'll just put my defenders in cover for 0.5s then and pop out before the attackers have time to run into cover? This idea seems reasonable, but from how it has been described, it sounds like it would be just as exploitable a...

Re: Proposed feature: importing level from a bitmap
Being able to use art packages we are used to or, heavens forbid, writing our own level generators, would indeed be a boon. We'd then just have to add the "arena wall" and combatants in the FS editor. Jimmeh-Mac suggested using SVG (open source XML vector file) with <rect> tags instead, which would ...

Re: Wishlist thread
Offer a toggle for 3D/2D display (e.g control-T): There is already a way to show the map features in 2D within the editor, when you are placing/moving walls, so all you need is to change the player figures into coloured dots. Everything else can be left as it is, I think. This would help you see th...

Re: Reseting Global Stats
Rather than having global resets at a set point, I think it would be better to delete all old stats on a sliding timescale. That is, rather than being reset to zero every 6 months, once a week just delete all scores that were gained more than, say, 3 months ago. Think this is the way ebay scores are...
Re: Netbook?
The game will run as small as 640x480, but 720x576 is the minimum where all the UI is properly visible (as opposed to buttons being only half on the screen). So the screen size should never be a problem.

Well, OK, they are both beta, but there is beta (beta version) and very beta (dev beta version, as linked to in the MOTD).

Re: Xing out the main menu...
Yes, but all previous use of windows tells us that pressing that X should only close that particular sub-window. The fact that it doesn't is very confusing. If it _has_ to stay working like this, please give us a "do you really want to quit to desktop" dialogue box when it is clicked, because even t...

Running out of disk space corrupted game
Background download processes filled up the last bits of my hard drive (yeah, silly me) while playing the game. This caused some serious mess... In one game I submitted turn 5 and although the other player said it went through and it shows I won, I still see it in the state in turn 4. Also, the othe...
