Re: 2 weeks score list change?

Um, can we start talking about timeout games and score changes again? I think that timeout games should count for the max allowable score, and I think that bugged games that time out can be handled through the forums, like any other bugged game. I think that speculating how well Mode 7 might handle ...

Re: 2 weeks score list change?

OK, wait a minute— with 2 week timeout, I got 25 wins, 1 loss and my Elo went down by some 59 points? How does that work?

Re: 2 weeks score list change?

EDIT: n/m, looks like Ian's on top of the doubling issue and Elo / rankings weren't affected by it.

Re: Help with ideas: test server

I guess you could sell it as a proving ground where you can play to your heart's content without risking your actual ranking (kinda like wonderhero said)? This. The test server could be the "play un-ranked games area." What would be perfect in this case would be the ability to log into th...

Re: ELO implementation, half baked?

And they'll have the benefit of knowing the actual skill level of older players while they're at it, instead of having to guess during the time it would take to repopulate the leaderboards. Rakshasa, please read carefully what Omroth wrote: I'd like to point out that your LEVEL would not be reset. ...

Re: ELO implementation, half baked?

A score reset and a move to ELO are a very good idea! The whole point of ELO is that if you're good, the system will quickly figure it out and give you a high rank. If you're been playing FS for a while and feel you deserve your high rank, then you should be able to get one in the ELO system rather...

Re: ELO implementation, half baked?

@Rakshasa: Jefis should probably be #1 Oh, believe me, I wasn't complaining— just surprised because I've played a lot of games and never noticed him before. But I don't play in the tournaments or hang out on IRC much, so I miss out on a big part of the community here. Personally i'm against a reset...

Re: ELO implementation, half baked?

It must be pointed out that if TheBeefiest and Bin have exaggerated Elo ratings it is because of the formula, and a reset won't fix the formula, therefore in N month we'll have exaggerated ratings again. reset = no fix regular reset = no fix ever and of course: fix = fix = no reset Check it IceBrai...

Re: ELO implementation, half baked?

On another note, what just happened to the leaderboard? I just looked and some players are missing and all the scores changed and I'm #13 and some guy named Jefis is #1 now? It can't just be the Elo implementation, because I checked as soon as that was updated and TheBeefiest was still up there wit...

Re: ELO implementation, half baked?

@Rakshasa Totally get that point of view, and that's why I think it'll be important to keep a record of the current scores and league table, but don't you also like the idea of a fresh challenge where you can actually fight it out with people on a more level playing field? I suppose that affects co...

Re: ELO implementation, half baked?

I did not play in the beta and really dislike the idea of a score reset. I care about my score and I've played a lot of games to get to where I am. I look at my rank as a direct expression of my progress in the game. A reset levels the playing field, sure, but it also erases all my progress. Right n...

Re: Mode7 you need to start supporting the game further.

@Paul I too am a player who has stopped playing while waiting for a better scoring system. I love this game, have played for nearly 200 hours and find it's one of the few multiplayer games I truly enjoy competing in. I strive to complete every game I play in, even if I'm losing badly (I think I only...

Re: Global rankings: win-loss ratio a better ruler than poin

I'm #25 currently, at just under a 7:1 ratio— but as Icebrain is trying to point out in his roundabout way, there will be Elo rankings implemented soon. Also, games which time out are not currently counting as losses for many, so someone with a really high ratio may simply not be finishing games in ...

Re: stacking machineguns?

Hmm, maybe I've never played against someone who's "stacked" correctly then, because I've always been able to pick apart the units for focus/ignore with a lot of careful (and damned annoying) mouse / tab work, even when there are 3 on the exact same spot. Also, if you're in a dark game and...

Re: Snipers

I agree that snipers can be pretty useless given the wrong circumstances— they need wide open spaces to be useful. However, I have had quite a few games of Charge and Disputed where a sniper was able to absolutely own a map.

It sucks when you get them on a map with no wide open spaces though. :(
