Re: Gameplay is now merely second-guessing, not tactics

(Scorpion0x17 may know about this, since he's into Software Engineering.) Indeed I do. Heuristically trimmed monte carlo AIs usually produce more 'realistic' outcomes though (where 'realistic' means 'like a human player'). Anyway... I have a question for you, jonwong: Where is it that you and your ...

Re: Gameplay is now merely second-guessing, not tactics

I'd have suggested you repost it as a new item, only that my second biggest gripe about Frozen Synapse is the complete absence of developer interest. That's my biggest gripe: developers' disinterest. Games that are imperfect, but have developers actively communicating with gamers (eg Sins of Solar ...

Re: Gameplay is now merely second-guessing, not tactics

even in a simple extermination you actually can use tactics. you just have to take your time and think through all the lethal possibilities of your enemy. then avoid all of them and use all the remaining time between your actions to endanger your opponent. That works wonders! Except, in 9 of 10 cas...

Re: Gameplay is now merely second-guessing, not tactics

Don't confuse what you believe with what is absolute truth - there is likely to be very little, if any, overlap between the two (and that is not meant as an insult, I'm sure you believe your beliefs are absolute truth - it's hard not to - but, rather, my statement applies to everyone - myself inclu...

Re: Gameplay is now merely second-guessing, not tactics

jonwong, I'm sure you discovered less than 20% of FS tactics. Because you played only Extermination. This mode is to warm you up. If you tried Disputed you would discover a new dimension of FS strategy. I recommend you to play Light Disputed using only MGs. You will say that will be easy like chess...

Re: Gameplay is now merely second-guessing, not tactics

The bit about engagements being determined randomly - there is one and only one situation in which an engagement is determined randomly - when the engaging units have the exact same bonuses Yes, that bit shows the reviewer didn't explore FS enough (like months). However, that goes to show how badly...

Re: Gameplay is now merely second-guessing, not tactics

After I wrote the above, I chanced upon an honest review (perhaps the only honest one about Frozen Synapse) at here . Shame it's factually incorrect. Which part of that honest review is incorrect? I desperately need to know, because I desperately want to like FS. I'm desperately trying to find fun ...

Gameplay is now merely second-guessing, not tactics

Curiously, after I had written about how FS is merely about second-guessing your opponent's go-go-go (not go-see-think-go) plans, I read the same in a very honest review. First, about FS's go-go-go mechanics. The post here talks about FS's lack of variable length turns that facilitate the human abil...

My first rage quitter since I came back to FS after a year!

Oh well. Talk about rage quitters, I just met my first today since I started on Frozen Synapse after a year. Match ID 596171. Darumir. Rage quitted at GMT 09:45hrs. He's not bad. He beat me 2 or 3 games today. Ok, fine I was busy reading/writing on this forum, but he really isn't bad. I was a double...

(False Report! Please Remove!) Friends button does nothing?

I looked at someone's profile in Frozen Synapse. I tried out the "Friends" button, tells me I've added the person as friend. How do I see my list of friends? I can't? How do I remove someone from my friends list? Is there even a system of "requesting for connection as friend"? Seems I can add anyone...

Re: The 'Campaign To Rid This Game Of Abandoned Losses' thre

Oh, I now remember why I gave up on the game last year after just 5 games. I had maybe 2-3 abandoned games. I even have 1 possible newly abandoned game now; my first online game after a year, and it's abandoned! (Or he plays only in weekends). My first move was always rather devastating (see Turn-2 ...

Maybe I explained it wrong?

I submit one 0.2second's worth of command to the server, and then wait two days for my opponent to submit his 0.2seconds worth of command? No thanks. For TL;DR. Command Issuance Cost game mechanics allow players to: Opt for go-see-go approach (Incur 0.5 seconds for each command issued), OR Opt for ...

Need variable length turns, not more complex user interface

Actually, the interface doesn't need to become complex. The game mechanics does, though. The problem is the current 5-second turns. That makes a lot of real world situations impossible in Frozen Synapse (which is also why it probaby can't yet be fleshed out into an X-COM game). For TL;DR: Frozen Syn...

Re: Wait timer does not count down with aim on?

Oh, I see the problem now. The timer only counts down when an action is done. The act of aiming (not the command of aiming) counts as an action. The timer will freeze until the soldier completes his aim and fires, and then the timer will continue counting down. This removes the ability to give such ...

Wait timer does not count down with aim on?

The simple bug report... Aim at some place. Pull out timer (say 1 second). Duck at 1 second mark. The entire action is: Aim at some place for 1 second, then duck. The complete bug report... Stand at corner for 1 second, then move back from corner (out of line of fire). Then move to nearby cover. Aim...
