The AI's not the brightest of opponents - my guess is it uses a Monte Carlo method, which is known to lead to the AI missing 'obvious' things like that (but then good AI is one of the hardest problems to solve in computer games).
Actually, the part of my plan with the two shotgunners in the bottom left rooms was the first part I figured out, and I only happened upon that possible AI plan about a minute before I primed. It wasn't exactly an obvious counter.
That's why I put 'obvious' in 's like that!
I meant things that are obvious in hindsight (which we humans are actually pretty good at figuring out, if we spend some time thinking about it, but AI struggles with).

So my attempt to take out his sniper at the end of turn 3/start of turn 4 failed miserably...
Sent my shotgun on a suicide run in turn 5 which he somehow made, his reward was being sent on another suicide run with the tiniest bit of cover for the win!
Pretty damn close.

I haven't played for a long time, so please excuse these not being recent.
Special to me because I rarely got to win against 7h30n. Watch the MG-SG dance in the lower left corner towards the end...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQZZmX0b ... w&index=17
What happens when you relax against an otherwise complete noob... And he goes crazy with the shotgun. Also, the only time everybody was dead. The opponent still won, probably because my soldiers died first.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FO0nOvKA ... w&index=14
I was certain I was going to lose a soldier immediately. The opponent's first rocket would go for one of the corners of the structure where all my soldiers are grouped while he'll be waiting with both of his soldiers in the south. Then I remembered I can take one of the corners out myself, granting a fairly safe passage for my SG.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okLDnmUm ... w&index=18

Proof that you should never quit, no matter how difficult your position seems to be
