New player commenting on: Alternate colours (+ two bugs)?

Post by CLeRIK » Thu Apr 29, 2010 5:05 pm

Hi!

Preordered the game yesterday and I have played a few matches, nice stuff (even though I lose all the time)!

Bugs I've noticed (I guess they're pretty common?):
I have experienced the game crashing when priming turns in single player (both on Windows XP and Windows 7). Also I invited two players to play a game, but they weren't notified.

Anyway: I was wandering if you plan for players to be able to choose alternate colour schemes? I'm red/green colour blind (which is pretty common) so having one team being red and the other being green might not be the best choice for some. I must admit though that the problem has not been as big as in other games, due to the brightness of the colours being different.

Keep up the good work!

I love the idea of alternate color schemes.

In pretty much all boardgames and strategy games I can have my pick, I play the colour Red.

And yesterday I played a game, where I was convinced I was Red instead of green - so I spent the first turn meticously planning out Red's moves and hit Submit.... just a splitsecond before I noticed my error.

Anyway, alternate color schemes would be great. Even an Option? "Assign color Black to self, assign color Bright Blue to enemy" and then work with shaders?

Hi CLeRIK.

FS will definitely have alternate colour schemes.

I apologise for the AI crashing - this is a known issue and I'm working on it.

Will there be alternate color schemes for the levels too? Could they be set in the level editor? Will there be a bonus level where the background changes hues and all the lights are disco balls?

No need to apologize, it's the beta after all!

Since I'm already asking questions: Will it be possible to play more than 2 teams per game? Like 2vs2 games or 1vs1vs1? I could see how the game would be come much more chaotic and unbalanced, but some players (including my work mates) may enjoy it. I'm a bit afraid that if they also get Frozen Synapse though, we will be play more games than actually develop games when we're at work :/

Heya.

1v1v1 is not really part of my plans right now, but 2v1 or 2v2 or 2vAI definitely is.

Thanks,
Ian

That depends on the ammount of units. My concern is though that if, let's say two friends are playing togheter (watching each others' screens and discussing tactics) they would be at huge advantage compared to 2 players sitting by their own. The same is true for Ventrilo or Teamspeak ofcourse.

Yeah, I can relate to this guy. Being colorblind ain't a walk in the park, especially with games that focus on reds and greens ;) Alternate color schemes would make this dichromatic Sykes a very happy dichromatic Sykes.

Purely out of curiosity, do any of you who are colorblind use some kind of color correction software? If not, why?

Yeah the guy I gave my buddy key to is colorblind as well and he said it means he has to carefully scrutinize each soldier to see who it belongs to. When I told him that the ability to adjust the colors was in the works he seemed pretty pumped.
