Mode7 you need to start supporting the game further.

Post by Disparanoia » Sat Sep 03, 2011 3:01 pm

First of all i would like to say FS is a great game and it shows you have put lots of work into it, my congratulations to you.

Sadly, its not enough, if the game is not supported further, the player base will eventually die.

Communicating with your costumers goes a long way, you have the channels to communicate with your costumers, through your website or through the game itself, do it.
Team Meat form Super Meat Boy, Notch from Minecraft, etc... they are all great examples that communicating with your costumers keeps the interest in the game for longer periods of time, generating a healthy playerbase and mouth to mouth "promotion".

Patches take too long, ive been waiting for a fix to "unfinished" matches since i bought the game, and from what ive read on this forum, it has been an issue long before the game was even "golden".
Im no game developer, maybe its a huge amount of work, but keeping the community informed would be a start.

I love this game, but i fear it will have the same fate as "darwinia/multiwina", how many people do still play those games?

FS has the potential to not have the same fate, to have a longer life, but not without additional support from Mode 7.

i dont intend to call anyone out, i just think i should give some "feedback" to mode 7 about their community, i fear the game will die if they dont do something.

out of 10 people i bought the game with (in july), only 3 still play it, and i dont know if they will keep their interest in the game when the DLC comes out, how many of those still around will buy it?

i think its in mode 7's best interest to start pushing themselves in this regard.

i hope the best to mode 7 and to FS, cheers.

Very true, why would anyone want to play a game when the person losing can take their ball and go home without any penalty. I always thought when a team quit, it was called a.... "Forfeit". And every time that happened the other team would WIN.

Forfeit

noun
1.
a fine; penalty.
2.
an act of forfeiting; forfeiture.
3.
something to which the right is lost, as for commission of a crime or misdeed, neglect of duty, or violation of a contract.
4.
an article deposited in a game because of a mistake and redeemable by a fine or penalty.
5.
forfeits, ( used with a singular verb ) a game in which such articles are taken from the players.

Please fix this, this will absolutely KILL your wonderful game that you so wonderfully produced. Don't forfeit your efforts on this gem of a game, because Frozen Synapse is a definite winner!

I'd like to chime in as well.

We at Neogaf are participating in quite a large tourney that has been put on halt untill the official Steam patch comes out. This was done after multiple promises of the devs that the patch would come out 'soon' or 'next week'. It has been more than a month since the original heads up and still there is nothing. No patch or confirmation of anything.

I think it's rude keeping your community in the dark. If you can't reach the deadline in time, just say so. We'll understand. Just say something.

I won't go into details so I don't appear as always criticizing Mode 7, but I agree.
FS has reached the state that I predicted one month before release in the conclusion part of my feedback.

EDIT: I have unsubscribed from this thread, I won't read it or reply to it. PM me if you want to discuss something.

We were told the scores would be reset..never happened.
There is still no forfit for not finishing games.
The scoring system sucks. It needs to be handicapped or it means nothing. You dont have to be good at this game to have a high score, you just need to play a lot and leave the games you are losing...another stratergy is just to play noobs as the scoring system isnt handicapped.
Ive given up playing this game and havnt played since it went "live" as to me it's now just pointless. This game was always very heavily based on score and that part of the game has never been addressed. The people behind this game are killing it off before its really had a chance to get going....very silly.

Unfortunately I haven't really played it at all in the last few weeks either in awaiting the patch.

The saddest thing is that the game could be an excellent competitive game with those issues fixed. The hardest thing; creating and making frozen synapse, is done, and its result is truly great. Going that extra mile, fixing the issues, patching the game quickly, etc... would grant a healthier life to the game.

If the people who love your game are annoyed, you should address the issue in my opinion.

Please.

I love this game, but if the devs go silent, it feels like the devs have abandoned it, and if the devs abandon it, it's doomed.

I appreciate there can be difficulties with releasing the patch that make releasing it take longer than expected. Tell the userbase what is going on. Otherwise, it just looks like you don't care about us.

When people post about a bug on your official bug forum, respond. "We are aware of the issue and are working on a fix to it in a future patch" is an acceptable answer. "This is a complicated bug and we are having great difficulty tracking it down" is an acceptable answer. "Unfortunately, fixing this bug would require rewriting over half the game's code, and so we cannot address this issue. Here are some ways to avoid/workaround the bug" is an acceptable answer. Dead silence is not an acceptable answer. Not if you want your customers to feel like you give a shit about them.

And when spammers post on the forum, for the love of God, delete the posts. You don't even have to do it yourselves. Appoint a user or two to mod status and let them do it.

From the IRC:
Buster: +1 from me for most of viewtopic.php?f=20&t=3557
Chemeleon: Buster, ian and the rest of the gang are due back home in a day or two, so dev should pick back up then
Chemeleon: since they were taking their first actual vacation in ages, it was decided to wait until after to release the patch, in case it horribly broke things unexpectedly (which would have been nearly guaranteed if released when it couldnt be readily fixed)
Buster: well that's all anybody needed to say
Buster: on the blog would have been good
Chemeleon: I think it has been, but pretty much just on irc, which is understandably hit or miss for many players
Buster: then everybody could be saying "hope the devs are having a nice time"
Buster: hope the devs are having a nice time
Chemeleon: sounds like they did
Chemeleon: pax, hung out with old friends, etc
Buster: sounds good
Buster: can i cut-and-paste some of this to the that forum thread?
Chemeleon: I see no harm in that

First off, I'd like to apologise for not communicating properly about this patch.

We broke our own rule ("Don't announce something until it's nearly done; don't commit to a time unless you can hit it") with this - we'll try to stick to that in future.

The reason for the delay of the patch isn't solely that we were at PAX and away for a secondary week, but that contributed to it.

When everyone is back in the country this week, we'll sort out a proper date for the patch and discuss everything in this thread as well.

Ian has responded separately here - http://www.mode7games.com/blog/2011/09/ ... his-month/

I don't want people to feel in the dark - if you have any general issues which need our feedback then post in the forums.

You can always ping me on Twitter as well if something isn't getting attention - http://www.twitter.com/mode7games

If you have any suggestions of how we can improve communication in general then let me know in this thread.

Man even if you make the "best game in 5 years" you get boat loads of whiners! That must be difficult to deal with mentally.

I would like to reiterate that even with all the flaws, this is the best game I have played in many years.

Thanks - I really appreciate that.

I will admit that I don't think we've handled some of the community aspects right, though, so I'm here to talk more with everyone about that.

I made my suggestions a month ago - saw zero changes.
