Avatar, out today on DVD/Bluray

Postby limavictor426 » Mon Apr 26, 2010 4:18 pm

Didnt watch it at the cinema. Wanted to but couldnt handle the other "patrons" sitting still and quiet for 2.5 hrs. Shame because it must have been awsome in 3D but spoilt by the crowd I would have to share it with.
Havnt watched the whole film yet, just the first half hour. WOW!!!!! Had to stop due to RL getting in the way, will resume tonight, cant wait.

I thought it was okay... maybe 70/100. The effects were cool, the story was just predictable and it was WAYY over hyped.

J Camerons films tend to be aimed at max entertainment, not too heavy, not trying to shock or make a political statement apart from the usual J Cameron theme of how awful and destructive humans are.
It was a visually stunning film, the plot was predictable but with a unique twist.
It was probably so succesfull as it was a film for everyone, highly entertaining and in 3D it must have been incredible.
For me films are just entertainment, I dont want to have to think about it too much, I dont want realism or excessive violence or lots of sex scenes. Avatar hit the spot for me. :D

Pandora's ecology is hard to take seriously.

"HURR HURR BRAIN PLUGS FOR EVERYTHING, EVEN THE PLANTS!"

It just seemed like a little too much. And the "Planet is a giant brain" thing was done better in a much more awesome way by the game Alpha Centauri, which is saying a LOT because the only plot in that game is occasional text-only interludes based on events.

It could be a better story, but still a great movie!

I saw it in 3D cinema, havent seen 2d yet. So i cant tell if its much better because of the 3D
