Black screen on startup

On startup the game will refresh each time I minimize and reload, however, even though the game loads normally it's as if the game screen is not functioning properly and does not register my cursor movement. i.e. I can still click on menu selections but I can't see what I'm clicking on. I'm running windows 8. I love this game and any help would be awesome.
