This might be because of the missing player models but I should mention it.
The screen doesn't change when I press 'b' or 'B'

(I'd upload the file here but it exceeds the file size, would a .gz file be better?)

Re: Hold the 'b' key to look at the stats display for all pl
Update: Pressing 'space' during the tutorial also doesn't appear to work in my setup.

Same issue here. For me none of the keys (b, c, v)is working.
Edit: Linux version, openSUSE 12.3 x86_64

Re: Hold the 'b' key to look at the stats display for all pl
More information:
It appears that the keyboard input isn't mapped for me the way that the tutorial describes:
Q, S, U, R and T select individual players
TAB cycles through the players
9 is the play and pause key
= is the rewind key
F12 is the player stats key
Arrow keys move the camera location
Backspace undoes the last command
The minus key on my keypad is the same as down arrow
((I can finally get past the 'press b' part of the tutorial!)
Edit: I'm unable to find the proper key for 'C' yet

Re: Hold the 'b' key to look at the stats display for all pl
So I have the same key mapping as you. "v"/line-of-sight is right shift.

Just an update...
This should be fixed in the next release.

Still have this problem... and can't find the replacement for 'C'

I don't think there has been a new Linux release since it was fixed. But as they are testing a new release for Windows at the moment (http://forums.mode7games.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=10319) this should be coming in the near future, I guess.
Re: Hold the 'b' key to look at the stats display for all pl
This is not fixed in the staging version for me.
Re: Hold the 'b' key to look at the stats display for all pl
@Ian: As you asked me in IRC but I didn't have the time to answer until you left:
"simMoveMap.bind(keyboard, "e", showStatsCarp);" does not work for me and does not bind stats to "e"
"showStatsCarp(1);" indeed works and shows all stats
